LATELY

Whenever my friends (or people I call friends but don't actually know in real life) don't update their blogs I get mad because I love stalking people through their blogs. Call me creepy but I know you do the same thing. I realized I am a hypocrite because I haven't updated the blog in so long. There is no theme or organization for this post, just a bunch of random pictures and stories. Here goes.

Billy surprised me with a weekend getaway to VEGAS! How could you not love Vegas.... Buffets, shopping, swimming and funny drunk people.
Bellagio Buffet
Don't worry about the fact that I tried ten different animals at the buffet. Not going Vegetarian anytime soon:)
Last Wednesday a friend from the gym offered me her bib number for the Logan Marathon because she hurt her knee. F-R-E-E marathon um yes please. The longest run I had done for a while was 15 miles so I was a little nervous. We went up to Logan on Friday and stayed with Preston and Shawnee. Paige and Jordan came over and we partied. Billy was lucky enough to hear about our favorite high school memories....it was so fun! We woke up at five the next morning and Billy drove me to the buses. The marathon was perfect. It was absolutely beautiful, the leaves in the canyon were changing colors and the temperature was perfect. I made a new P.R. of 3 hours 4 minutes. I took first in my age group and won some money and a trophy. I loved not having to pay for the race... why do we pay other people to run I will never understand:)

Paulina's bachelorette party at the cheesecake factory. Definitely a good time.
Thanks a lot Jessie for leaving us. We went to the Tree Room in Sundance for a farewell dinner. Pretty sure we were there for at least three hours.

Well thats it for the next five months until I post again.
To my favorite blogs: Would you mind posting more often, like at least three times a week. Thanks

Summer Highlights thus Far!

Some people can't stand having nothing to do (like a job or school). Other people, like me, are fine not working, sleeping in and just hanging out all day every day. I think I could do this forever but I guess three months will have to do. Billy had school spring semester but took the summer off. Party! Our summer so far has included a lot of laziness, scooter rides, fireworks on our roof, softball games galore, bbq's, weddings, criminal minds, and Billy's birthday celebration (I am obsessed with making birthdays a huge deal). We left on Friday for AZ to visit my brother. We ate a lot, had pool time, went to a diamondback game and laughed the entire time. When Dan and Billy get together they demature 10 years (according to Jamie:) and are constantly joking. Now we are in California for the next month staying at Billy's parents. Have I ever mentioned I LOVE my in-laws. Here are some pictures of what we have been doing.
My new favorite hippie restaurant, "Pita Jungle." Best Portabella Mushroom Burger ever.
KATIE'S MARRIED!!
Love my high school besties. Timpanogos tennis team reunion ha.
B-$$$ made a special birthday rap for Billy outside of the 7-11. He was thrilled.
Billy is a little too close with his friends.
The girls at Billy's surprise ice cream party.
Goodwood Birthday Dinner
Oregano's in AZ. Pizza, Subs and a Pazookie.
Diamondback's game. They won! Jamie is due in 3 weeks.

It's gonna be awhile.

My favorite thing about teaching is the hilarious things that students do. As I was teaching about drunk driving a student came up in front of the class while I was teaching and in a loud whisper said, "I am going to the bathroom and its going to be AWHILE. I just wanted to tell you that so you don't think I am skipping when I don't come back for awhile." The whole class heard and they were so nice to wait to laugh until after he left. They are more mature than I am because I started laughing right away.

Numero Dos

It is my summer vacation!! One of the best reasons to be a teacher is summer!! Even though I still go in and work a few times a week at the school and I am teaching summer school for the next two weeks, I have loved being able to sleep in everyday and hang out with Billy/friends/family in the middle of the day!! I also love being able to eat breakfast and lunch at home.... I know that sounds strange but during the school year I am never able to sit down and really enjoy my meals without students around or grading at the same time. I should probably start lesson planning because next year I am teaching health, drivers ed, civics, PE, world civ/geography and student government. I will also be coaching cross country and in charge of Breakfast Club (a girls self-esteem workshop). That's what you have to do these days in order to have a teaching job... stupid economy.
About a month ago a friend told me she could no longer to the Utah Valley Marathon after she had already paid and wanted to know if I wanted to do it. I don't know what I was thinking but I immediately got online and transferred her bib number to me. I trained over the last month (indoors on a treadmill, not because it is cold but I am scared to death of running by myself after that girl got raped and nearly killed on the provo trail). I think I worked on carb loading more than I did on training:) Making brownies at ten at night and explaining to Billy that I am carb loading the week before the race is a little much I think. I was planning on riding the bus to the starting line but Billy insisted he drive me there at 4:15 AM. It was raining and 43 degrees. Why do people pay money to do this to themselves? At the starting line I was standing next to two men from Kenya. The prize money was a lot so this race attracted a lot of elite athletes. The first half was emotionally exhausting. I was soaked, freezing, tired and felt lonely in the dark canyon (the first 18 miles) but once I reached the bottom of the canyon and saw my Mom, Laura and Billy it was fun again and I was able to push myself. The race finished at the Provo mall. I finished in 3 hours and 8 minutes. I took first in my age group. This race was so well organized and they had so many more aid stations stocked with gels, food, gatorade. I can't say I enjoyed the first half but the second half really was fun.
The fan crew.... Billy is taking the picture
1 of 3 blood blisters from running in the rain (the other ones were worse).

The race went right in front of our house... I was tempted to just run inside and go to bed.

ONE YEAR!!!

It has already been one year since I married my bestie!

We have the easiest anniversary ever to remember.... CINCO de MAYO! Since our anniversary was on a weekday we decided to celebrate our Mexican Holiday on Wednesday and celebrate our anniversary on the weekend. We went to Diego's for some taquitos on Wednesday night. Billy loves Mexican food but I am never in the mood for it..... I think that just knowing it was a Mexican Holiday made me crave it (I am strange).

Friday night we went to the usual hang out spot, Pizza Pie Cafe, with Rachelle, Dallas and Shelly. Yes, we were there for nearly 3 hours laughing. Saturday we headed up to Salt Lake and walked around the gateway! I don't know what it is about an outdoor mall but I just love the atmosphere. Billy always has to hold me back from jumping in the fountain.
Next stop, Little America Hotel. My family used to eat Thanksgiving every year there and I have always loved it. Our room came with a goodie bag and also dinner and breakfast. It was PERFECT. We went swimming, ate lots of treats, and watched Nitro Circus (yes, I am an MTV junkie) until 1:30 a.m. The whole weekend I kept thinking how amazing it is that you really can fall more and more in love with someone.
It was so nice just getting away from everything for 24 hours. Including the mouse (Herbie) that has been living in our house for the last 4 days. We thought we would come home to find him in one of the 6 mouse traps but no he is still alive and kicking.

She's Back........

It is official. Scoo Scoo has re-entered our lives. Even though Billy used her during the winter to get to school (when there wasn't too much snow) it feels like it has been eternity since our joy rides in the sun. It is now time for her to be used for Billy/Janae Adventures in Provo. I have been looking forward to this day for so long. Scoo Scoo makes me feel so alive. It is going to be a good summer.

salt lake marathon 4/17

Wow! I haven't posted in a LONG time. Get ready for picture overload:)

Doing a marathon has always been one of my biggest goals. I decided in January that it was time to finally do it! Training is a long process especially when you live in Utah and the weather forces you to do your long runs on the treadmill. The golds gym members and employees probably think I am psycho due to the fact that I would sing out loud, get emotional watching Oprah and bring a meal to eat as I ran for three hours straight during the training process. Many blood blisters, missing toenails (TMI???) and chaffing experiences later it finally came down to the last two weeks of training. I decided that I wasn't going to run during my tapering period except for one five-miler. I did spin, some weight training and the elliptical but I felt like my body was feeling really warn down from so much running. Not only that but I really do enjoy being lazy and during my spring break I made sure to be located on my couch as much as possible. The day before the marathon Billy and I made sure to be extra lazy. We ate a lot (I don't believe in carb loading but more like calorie loading), we watched a lot of TV and finally went up to Salt Lake to pick up the bib and walk around the expo. P.S. Billy has been the most supportive husband through all of this. He was always so interested in my runs and making sure to get me the best shoes/running accessories etc. He was supposed to have a scheduled final during the race but he did everything he could and got the professor to allow him to take it later so he could be there.

Neither of us slept very well that night but we woke up at 4:50 AM and we were both in really good moods and full of energy. We hurried and grabbed breakfast (cinnamon sugar bagel from Einsteins and almond butter) and rushed up to Draper to pick up my aunt and cousin who were doing the half. I am so happy that they decided to run this race with me because they are HILARIOUS!! They really calmed my nerves and made me forget what I was about to do as we (including Billy) waited at the starting line for 45 minutes. The gun went off and I started to make my way through huge herds of people. Being a marathon virgin I made sure to read a lot of articles and stories about making sure to save your energy for the the last half and to take it easy at the beginning. About 1/2 a mile into it I thought, "That's lame....why make myself go slow when my body and mind feel so fresh and I have so much energy." Billy, Danny and Shelly were the BEST cheerleaders ever! They came to 7 different areas and took so many pictures. It gave me a boost of energy every time I saw them (along with the no-doze and other legal aids that I took:). My dad and sister also were at mile 20 and the finish line. Rachelle even ran next to me for a little while. The weather was PERFECT and the route was really gorgeous! I think I am addicted to marathons. I hit the wall HARD at mile 23 and it was by far my slowest mile.

I finished in 3 hours and 20 minutes. 10 minutes faster than my goal for the race and 20 minutes faster than I needed to in order to qualify for Boston. I took first place for my age group and 45/1007 (including men). Every time I passed a man running that looked like he was a hard core runner I got the biggest high ha! They probably thought I was going to burn out ha! I don't have a competitive bone in me;)

Okay this is way to much typing so time for pictures. P.S. I am really sore! P.P.S I need to learn how to run and drink gatorade at the same time. I was a sticky mess by the end.

Seriously the best part of the race was seing him along the way!
I look really happy, once again people thought I was crazy. Please note I didn't post pictures during miles 22-26! I looked like I was going to kill someone.

Making sure I was keeping pace:)

Water boy

Sprint towards finish line..... Yeah that is a painful look!
I collapsed to the ground after the finish line. It was the weirdest feeling...I felt like all of the muscles in my leg detached from the bones and became jello.
DAD!! Mom wasn't able to come because she has been really sick with allergies... but she was able to watch me from the GPS on her computer. She followed me the entire time and she told me that at times she was crying, and yelling out loud at the computer to cheer me on.
The gorgeous sister and me. No I did not eat four creamies right after I finished.

For some reason I cried a few times a long the way and especially at the end. I felt my Grandad (who loved running/coaching track) was there cheering me on:)
Yep, he's mine:)
My favorite running buddies! Aunt Laura and Erin
Going up to get my medal for first place wahoo!!!
Admiring the shininess:)
I am going to run in the BOSTON marathon next April. I am already looking at plane tickets!
Now that school is almost over I will be blogging a lot more. Hope everyone is doing amazing!!!
